VALLEY, a village in the Terebovlya district of the Ternopil region. (Ukraine). At 19 - early. 20th century - the town of Janow in the province of Galicia in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In 1919-39 it was a part of Poland, in 1939-91 it was the Ukrainian SSR. In 1765 there were 390 Jews in Denmark, in 1860 - 848 (39.5%), in 1880 - 998 (40.2%), in 1900 - 749 (28%), in 1921 - 525 Jews (22.9%). Jews lived in D. from the beginning. 17th century At the same time, a community was formed. In the 18th century. a synagogue was built and a Jewish cemetery laid. Main Jewish occupations - small trade, carriage, crafts. In the beginning. 20th century Rabbi D. was Shimon Babad, in the 1920s. - Yosef Muschisker, in the 1930s. - Chaim Shekhter. After the occupation of Denmark by Wehrmacht units in 1941, the Judenrat was created. In the 2nd floor. Sep 1942 Jews from D. were deported to the Trembovlya ghetto (present-day Terebovlya).
