Born in Zalužani, Bohemia, Abraham Kohn completed his secondary and religious schooling; he later took courses in philosophy at the University of Prague. Ordained as a rabbi in 1832 by Shemu’el Landau and the two Bohemian district rabbis, in 1833 he was appointed rabbi of Hohenems, a town in which many of the Jews were already progressive in their outlook. Kohn established an artisans’ society and invested his efforts in youth education. During his tenure, the synagogue established a choir, but his attempts to abolish the custom of selling Torah honors on the Sabbath were unsuccessful."@en , "Geb.  1. Mit Empfehlung vom Oberamt in Orlík nad Vltavou (Worlik) 1833 Bewerber um das Elbogen-Saazer Kreisrt.Sept. 1833 Rb. in Hohenems, Vorarlbergdort zunächst auf drei Jahre angestellt, geht er an die Umgestaltung von Gottesdienst, Schule, Vereinsleben, jedoch ohne liberal-reformerische Ambition. 1836 erste Konfirmation. 1837 Mitglied in Geigers „Verein jüd. Gelehrter“, verteidigt das Hamburger Gebetbuch von 1841, Bewerber in Frankfurt/M. (1841), Teilnehmer an allen Rb.-Vers. 1844 „Religionslehrer und Prediger“ in Lemberg, 1845 Gründung der „Israelit. Normalschule“, 1846 provisorisch zum Kreisrb. ernannt, 1846 „Dt.-Israelit. Bethaus“, scharfe Opposition der Orthodoxen, wird 1848 vergiftet aufgefunden.";
