Seit 1814 versah er mit seinen Kollegen Michael Speyer und Baruch Oser das Rt. in der damals größten jüd. Gem. Deutschlands und nahm an der Polemik gegen den Reformtempel teil. Aufgrund der „Altersschwäche“ der überlebenden Dajanim Oser und Jaffe begründet der Vorstand im Juni 1820 seinen Entschluß, sie einem jungen, modern gebildeten moreh s. ädäq unterzuordnen, was im Jahr darauf gegen den Widerstand der Alten auch geschieht. J. war verheiratet mit Pes’che Kallmes (1748-1819) aus Leszno (Lissa).";
