How the semantic search works

In 2021, TagMe found 747,758 mentions of 5,444 entities on 316,000 pages (dataset cm-tagme). Each entity is represented by one JudaicaLink entity page (4,127 persons, 1,251 places, 66 subjects), which brings together what the datasets of JudaicaLink say about it: life dates, occupations, birth places, links to the GND, VIAF and Wikidata. The index of this showcase stores, for every page, the entities it mentions and these facts about them, so pages can be found by “mentions a person with occupation …” or “mentions a person born in …”, combined with words of the full text. No machine learning: just the graph. Mentions were found automatically and are not checked; some are wrong.
