The medical stations of Hadassah in Tiberias rendered invaluable services to the victims of the floods in May, 1934. The number of patients who sought aid in the médical stations in Tiberias amounted to 7,406, with about 50 per cent, ophthalmic cases. 18. The Hadassah Hospital in Tel-Aviv, by adding another storey to its building, increased the number of beds to 237 (children included). This figure is only SO per cent, of the urgent requirements for hospital accommodation in Tel-Aviv alone (apart from the rural surroundings). Hospital service was considerably improved by the introduction of a Röntgen section and departments for venereal and skin diseases. But the excessive overcrowding hampers all further progress. This enabled Hadassah to reduce its share in the upkeep to only <£P. 1,500, i.e., about 5 per cent, of the total budget. The Jewish Hospital in Haifa is not in a satisfactory financial state, because the community is still in the initial stages of growth, and also because Government support is not forthcoming. The Hadassah subsidy to this hospital amounted to £P. 2,400, i.e., one-third of its total budget. The Hadassah general medical and preventive work, child treatment, and school hygiene were carried out in collaboration with the local authorities, viz., the Tel-Aviv Municipal Council, the Council of Petach Tikvah, the Women Zionists' Organisation in Haifa, and in the colonies. This collaboration facilitated the further increase and expansion of the preventive service in many instances. The need for intensification and further development was of paramount importance in Jerusalem, because of the heavy child mortality there, in Tel-Aviv, Haifa, and the plantation colonies, in consequence of the increasing flow of immigration to these localities. During this year as well as in the past the work of the Hadassah stations was concentrated on the following : Treatment during the pre-natal period, child treatment, and treatment of 420
