Palestine and Europe in support of the University, and it is to be hoped that such efforts will be successful. 3.—JEWISH NATIONAL AND UNIVERSITY LIBRARY. The Jewish National and University Library has developed very satisfactorily during the past two years both as regards the number of volumes and their quality. In consequence of the events in Germany, large private collections of books have been presented to the Library. Thanks to the initiative of the Berlin Zionist Society a Bureau has been opened in Berlin, at which a record is kept of all such books, so that the despatch of duplicate copies and of unwanted books is avoided. From Germany alone about 30,000 volumes have been sent to Jerusalem during the past two years. The Library, with the co-operation of the Sephardic Jews in Palestine, has published a catalogue of the books in the Judeo- Spanish dialect (Ladino) in its collections. The Manuscript Department of the Library has been considerably enlarged, and a catalogue of Hebrew manuscripts has been issued. The authorities of the University have decided to found an Arlosoroff section in the Library in memory of the late Dr. Chaim Arlosoroff, which, in accordance with the interest that he took in the development of the collection on Colonial policy, is to include as large a number of books as possible on this question, which is of such importance to Palestine. The nucleus of the section will be formed by the private collection of Dr. Arlosoroff, which has been presented by his widow. The Director of the Library will be grateful to all friends of the late Dr. Arlosoroff for their assistance in building up this section. The large reading room of the Library has been suitably furnished since the last Congress. A beginning has been made with the creation of the Bialik archives, which are to include all material relating to the personality and activity of the deceased poet. The number of works catalogued to April 1st, 1935, was 291,361. 4.—THE HAIFA TECHNICAL INSTITUTE. 1. General Remarks. As in the previous Congress period, so in the years 5694 and 5695 the Technical Institute was under the control of an Administrative Board that was appointed by mutual agreement * between the Jewish Agency Executive and the Vaad Leumi.
