The following table shows the record yields of a number of cows, and these can be compared to the yields of the best pedigrees in Europe : 70 cows produced in one year 4500-5000 litres. 49 „ „ „ „ 5000-5500 „ 35 „ „ „ „ 5500-6000 „ 18 „ „ „ „ 6000-6500 „ 14 „ „ „ „ 6500-7000 „ 7 „ „ „ „ 7000-9000 „ (Further details in Table 4). All these cows were bred in these settlements, and are the result of cross-breeding of the Dutch pedigree with the Syrian, German and Arab pedigrees. Such satisfactory results in the yields of the cows have not been obtained without a great deal of care. (v) The Swiss Cow. At the beginning of 1934, 57 Swiss cows were brought into the settlements, for the experts found that the Swiss cow is more suitable for the local requirements and can be better acclimatized than other breeds. Fifty-six of those cows were allocated to sixteen settlements in various zones. Although all the cows that were sent to the Valley of Esdraelon suffered from malaria, they recovered easily and stood the climate better than the local breed and the Dutch-Syrian cross-breed. Moreover, they never suffered from any infectious diseases. Table 4. Income from Milk in Kvutzoth in 5694. Total Price per Name. Litres Income Litre in Milk. in £P. Milles. 11.
