pupils, and there is room in it for expansion to accommodate 150 pupils. An annexe has been added to the agricultural school for girls in Nahalal; and the training farms for girls in Talpioth, near Jerusalem, and in Ayanoth, near Ness-Ziona, have enlarged their scope. Especially marked is the growth of the agricultural school " Mikveh-Israel," which accommodates 230 pupils from abroad and from among the children of the new immigrants. The agricultural school for children in Mair-Shfejah has extended its plantation area and the area of its working fields. The Jewish agricultural school erected near Kfar-Tabor from the money bequeathed by the late Sir Ellis Kadoorie, has developed satisfactorily, and it promises to bring great benefit to the agricultural population, especially in Galilee and in the Emek. Such conflicts have increased, especially since the promulgation of the Protection of Cultivators' Ordinance and land transfer restrictions. The Government is not paying adequate attention to hydrological research, especially in the uncultivated areas in the South, which could become populated by tens of thousands of agricultural families. Minor loans were granted by the Government to four settlements in the Emek for the purpose of prospecting for drinking water, and it also assisted Nahalal and Ramath-David by lending machinery for the boring of wells. The promulgation of the new agricultural tax law, which converts all taxes previously in force, based on an antiquated and inconvenient system, into one general tax, is bound to be of great benefit to the farmers. It is, however, to be regretted that the 313
