Last year we appointed an Economic Committee, which looks after the question of economic relations with Palestine. It acts as the local representative of the Tel-Aviv Exhibition, attends to travelling arrangements for Palestine, and also represents Palestinian firms. The Zionist weekly is Zsido Szemle, and our economic journal is Palesztina Gazdasagi Szemle. The organ of the General Zionists, Cionismus, and A Zsido of the E.J.H. Organisation appear as periodical bulletins. The following are pro-Zionist papers : Orszagos Egyetertes, Szombat, Uj Ut, Zsido Elet.. The widely circulated paper of the Liberal and " Neologen " Jews Egyenloseg is anti-Zionist. The only Jewish monthly of a literary and artistic character, Mult es Jövo, is also Zionist. All the Jewish papers appear in Hungarian. The number of Shekel payers in 5694 was 1,673; the number for 5695 is not yet definitely known. In the last Congress year there were 3,450 shekel payers. The income of the Keren Kayemeth in 5694 was 30,000 pengo, and in the year 5695 (first seven months) 25,000 p. There have been no contributions to the Golden Shekel. Contributions are made for " Hachshara " and Palestinian immigration as well as for the two national Funds. Cultural training is carried on in the youth organisations and at the weekly club evenings of the Federation. For the younger children we hold story afternoons every Saturday in the winter half-year. On the occasion of the Jewish communal Congress in the Spring, at which the constitution of the Jewish community was revised, we submitted some proposals for general instruction in modern Hebrew and for the support by the communities of " Aliyah " and " Hachshara." Hebrew is now taught as a living language in two Jewish high-grade schools in Budapest and in one at Debreczin, as well as in the Jewish Seminary for women teachers at Miskolc. Since the last Zionist Congress the position of Zionism in Hungary has shown favourable tendencies of development. ITALY.
