the head of the Keren Hayesod in Germany. With the establishment qf the Jewish Agency, he became its President. Ardent protagonist that he was of the upbuilding of the Jewish National Home in Eretz Israel, he was the ideal spokesman of a group of people who, prompted by family traditions and Jewish learning, found the way to practical work for Eretz Israel along the path blazed by the Zionist movement. The conception of the Jewish Agency, aiming as it does to unite prominent men in all walks of life in work for Eretz Israel, irrespective of party, had no more distinguished representative than Oscar Wassermann. His unexpected demise was a great blow to our work. The aspirations which inspired him will remain the guiding star of the Board of Directors. In agreement with the Executive of the Zionist Organisation and of the Jewish Agency, the Board of Directors has co-opted the following additional members : Lord Melchett, Sir Montague Burton, Messrs. Israel M. Sieff and Joseph Sprinzak. Since the majority of the Directors reside in Eretz Israel, regular monthly Board meetings have been held, attended by representatives of the Executive. Some of these meetings were also participated in by Directors from abroad. As in former years, the Managing Directors acted as delegates of the Keren Hayesod. In 5694, Mr. L. Jaffe headed the campaign in Congress-Poland and in Western Galicia and, jointly with Mr. Sokolow, conducted the South African Campaign. In 5695, he proceeded to Latvia on a special mission and, on his return journey spent a short time in Congress-Poland on affairs of the Keren Hayesod. Dr. Hantke visited Belgium, Holland, England, France, Switzerland and Germany in 5694, and in 5695 France, England, Congress-Poland, East Galicia and the four provinces of Roumania. In his capacity of Secretary to the Board, Mr. Leo Herrmann assisted, in 5694, in the preparations for " Mifal Arlosoroff." At the beginning of 5695 he went to the United States to superintend the finishing stages of the new film, " Land of Promise." In the course of this visit he represented the Board at the meetings which culminated in the continuation of the United Jewish Appeal, and at those of the Administrative Committee of the Jewish Agency in New York. He also paid a flying visit to Canada. The General Secretary's stay of almost one year has laid the foundation for a far closer and more fruitful collaboration with this the most important of Keren Hayesod sections than has ever existed before. Our very special thanks are again due to Mr. Nahum Sokolow, President of the Zionist Organisation and of the Jewish Agency,, for his direction of the South African Campaign and for his. assistance in Poland, France, England and Palestine. The Keren Hayesod was again privileged to have the advice and assistance of Dr. Chaim Weizmann, who took part in the " Mifal Arlosoroff " in Paris and in the Keren Hayesod Campaign in Eretz Israel. His main attention was given to the collections for the settlement of German Jews in Palestine. The Jewish world has suffered an irreparable loss in the death; 125
