— 54 — The Central Bureau continued to take an interest in the "New Bezalel" which has a director and 5 teachers from Germany, and the Palestine Conservatoire of Music in Jerusalem. Both institutions employ experts from Germany as teachers, and there are many children from Germany among the students. X. SOCIAL ACTIVITY FOR GERMAN IMMIGRANTS The Central Bureau continued to grant a special budget for social activity among German immigrants. In October, 1936, the budget was increased to £P.4,000 per annum, in place of £P.3,000 in the previous year. Demands grew in extent, and even the augmented budget was inadequate to meet the requirements for social aid. The sum of £P.3,000 was allocated for constructive social loans through the Department for Social Service of the Vaad Leumi, under the administration and control of which social welfare work is carried on for German immigrants in the country. This amount was distributed by the Bureau and through its local Social Service Committees as follows :— £P.
