— 26 — The number of settlers in Gan Shomron, near Karkur, was increased to 30, and in Kiryat Bialik, in the Haifa Bay area, to 28. There are now 28 permanent settlers and several candidates for settlement in Kfar Yedidya. Investments were made by the Central Bureau in the three settlements as follows : Gan Shomron — LP.5,750; Kiryat Bialik —LP. 11,000; Kfar Yedidya — LP.14,000 (including LP.3,000 by Mr). Individual settlers were given support in 35 different centres in the country. Credit and instruction were furnished to settlers in the middle-class centres of Ramot Hashavim, Meged and Naharia, which were created by bodies other than the Central Bureau. Loans amounting to LP. 1,000 were approved for Kfar Ivri, and to LP.400 for Beer Tuvia. The Central Bureau invested an aggregate LP.60,000 in middleclass agricultural colonisation. The absorption of halutsim in labour settlements was made possible by sums budgetted by the Council for German Jewry at the rate of LP. 100 per unmarried worker, and LP.200 per family. These funds were used for construction of dwelling-houses and the intensification of existing branches of farming. The sum of LP. 105,000 was in this way invested out of the special budget of LP. 150,000 in the past year. The following schedule itemises these investments (figures expressed in Pounds Palestine) :
