270 Die englische Intervention z. Gunsten d. böhmischen Juden i. JT. 1744 ensuing no Jew is to be found in any of 111 e towns belonging to Prague. Tliat after the expirat-ion of six months to be accountedfron! fclie said last1) day of January 110 Jew is to be suffered or fonnd in the hereditary Dominion of Her said Majesty, & in case any skould be found, tbey are tö suffer military chastisement. Tour petitioners most humbly beg leave to observe tliat in the said edict there is no reason or cause assigned for the expulsion of their said brethren, who therefore, suspeetthat it is fomentecl by their inveterate enemies for motives which they cannot account for, as they have always acted as dutiful, faithful, and loyal subjects to their most gracious Sovereign the said Queen of Hungary, even during the many revolutions tliat have happened in Prague witliin tliese few yearSj and notwithstanding the great devastation & excesses which naturally occurred therefrom, they have contiiiued, & shall do continue, firm and unshaken, in their principles of affection and fidelity tö her said Majesty and her most illustrious House. Your petitioners, far from vindicating any particular persons in the crime they may have conimitted during the last revolution (if any such tliere are), desire adequate punishment to be inflicted 011 them; but humbly hope tliat the innocent will not be permitted to suffer for crimes whicli they have in 110 wise been accessarv to, and humbly remonstrate that tlie expulsion of fifty thousand families and upwards from their native country at so critical a juncture, who (as your petitioners are informed andbelieve) always contributed and concurred in strengthening Her Majesty’s Hands against Her enemies, must inits consequen ce prove detrimental and prejudicial to the true interest of the common cause, and more immediately so to lier HungarianMajesty. In tender consideration whereof Your petitioners (in behalf of the aforesaid distressed people) most humbly supplicate Your Majesty, in Your great and known equity and compassion to interpose Your Majesty’s good Offices upon this occasion with the Queen of Hungary, in Order to prevail upon Her said Majesty to revoke the said edict, or at least to suspend the time of the expulsion of their said brethren, & to establish a commission of enquiry, in order to discriminate the innocent l) Offenbar ein Irrtum, denn nach dem Ausweisungsdekrete sollte ׳ Böhmen bereits Ende Juni von den Juden geräumt sein.
