89 Our manuscript states it thus: חשודיים על העריות אחי ובבני השפחות להבזות וגם לאבל אבר מן חחי And thus we might continue multiplying by the dozen examples showing the similarity, nay almost identity existing between the interpretations of our manuscript and those of ßashi. Our author however is invariably briefer than ßashi, and as a result in often obscure, and a comparispn with ßashi’s more elaborate comments serves to elucidate our author’s meaning. As to the authorship of this poem, I can make no conjecture. If the acrostic שלמה כן יצחק refers to the author, the imaginative mind is tempted to conclude that רש״י or B. Salomo ־ the so'n of Isak ör Isaki,8) the author of the commentary bearing that name and already referred to, might also be the author of this poem; for ßashi is known to have tried his hand at poetry also. The poem, however, is of later date; and if שרמה כן יצחק is the author, we cannot place him. In the following the first six stanzas are reproduced as in the original י שמך אודה אלי במקהלות ויום עמדי בסוד אחדותך נפשי אויתיך גם בלילות לך אמר לבי מציאותך וכל מציאות בלתך משתנה אמת כי אין ראשית לראשיתך מופת שלמותך הוא כי הנה לא על צד החיוב רק בנדבה אמרת עולם חסד יבנה השפעת טובתך הרחבה ונתהוו מדרגות■ מלאכים שרפי קודש וחיות מרכבה 8) The שם הגדולים States that the Responses of Rashi qnoted in שבלי 9הלק are sigped שלמה^בר יצחק.
